How You Can Help

Diet Preparation Specialists

This position's focus is to ensure all needed food is prepared and ready for use. This includes making formula for our young animals, chopping fruits and vegetables, hard boiling eggs, sifting/feeding our mealworms, restocking our storage areas, & ensuring the Diet Prep Room is is both clean and stocked with knives and cutting boards.

*Doing laundry, washing dishes, and other general cleaning tasks will ALWAYS be a part of your shift, no matter how trained you are.

Accessibility & Physical Requirements

The majority of diet prep tasks are performed while standing, and volunteers should be prepared to be on their feet for most or all of a typical two-hour shift. This role also involves frequent trips between the diet prep room and the walk-in cooler to retrieve food items, so volunteers should anticipate spending time in a cooler, chillier environment throughout their shift. While we do our best to support volunteers, we are not always able to modify task requirements or the physical nature of this role. We encourage prospective volunteers to consider these expectations and reach out with any questions to help determine whether this role is a good fit.
